This is What Happens To Your Body After You Drink A Cup of Coffee (It’s all good, mostly)

We’ve been wondering exactly what happens to our body when we drink a cup of coffee.  So we decided to pull together this list that every coffee lover would enjoy.  Just grab a cup of your favorite Joe and read on.

10 Minutes

As the caffeine enters your bloodstream, your heart rate and blood pressure start to increase.

15-20 Minutes

You start to feel more alert and focused.  You feel less tired because caffeine crowds out your adenosine receptors.  You find it easier to make decisions.  You feel more confident.

30 Minutes

Your body releases more adrenaline and cortisol.  This boosts your energy and even improves vision as your pupils dilate slightly.  You can bike, run, play longer while feeling less effort.

40 Minutes

Your mental clarity improves due to the release of the neurotransmitter serotonin.  This also improves the firing of motor neurons, improving strength. This is the ideal time to work out.

Next 4 hours

Your body continues to burn fat due to the release of adrenaline and cortisol, and have more energy and feelings of alertness and sharpness.   You feel more awake.

5 Hours

At least half the caffeine in your body has been metabolized by the liver.  If you haven’t taken more caffeine by now your serotonin and dopamine receptors will begin to empty, leaving you feeling tired, slower, and less energetic.  Time to brew a new pot of that roasted goodness!

If you haven’t had more coffee by now you may be tired and depressed.
